ENCOURAGING FAITH AND WORK ENGAGEMENT IN CANADA

An Our Common Calling Project

PURPOSE

Goal One

The primary focus for each of these initiatives is the local Canadian church, Canadian student ministries and Canadian marketplace groups. Our desire is to encourage God’s people in these communities to embrace a deeply integrated life of faith and work through which God works to transform Canadian and global society.

Goal Two

Communicate work / faith inspirational stories of Canadians living out their faith in the workplace, ensuring that the stories are available as useful resources to the local church, student ministry groups and other Canadian communities of Jesus-followers.

Goal Three

Encourage new work / faith initiatives that will impact Canada and the global context, identifying and supporting local churches, student groups and individuals involved in faith and work opportunities.

Promote current work / faith resources relevant to the Canadian context and explore how to continue to develop those resources.

PROJECT

Promoting Resources

The project leadership is exploring connections in the agency, academy, assembly and agora worlds in order to develop a list of organizations and individuals to interview regarding resources and stories. The outcomes of these interviews will be developed into an accessible national “catalogue” of work / faith resources that can be kept up to date relatively easily.

Communicating Stories

The project leadership are collecting inspirational stories illustrating the power of an integrated work / faith life, including stories from a variety of marketplace contexts like business, manufacturing, the arts, and also including people working cross-culturally in Canada and overseas. The interview process (see #1) is designed to highlight inspirational stories that would support the project’s purposes. The project leadership will select fifteen to twenty of these stories and produce them as a compelling and accessible resource for the Canadian church.

In pursuing these two goals, we trust that we will become aware of new initiatives and emerging interest that we can encourage in line with our third goal.
